Today, I was practicing basketball with my kids.
What did we practice?
- passing down the ball with one bonce
- passing the ball without bonce
- scoring from different points
- bonce from different high
- bonce with different speed
We were there people, and sometimes we used three balls, sometimes only one.
Our basketball field is on a playground, that is placed on a firefighter road.
So we had to study how to pay attention, where cars were passing next to us.
We also talked about how to target and how to use the elbow in this case.
We also talked about behavior, and how to think about long-term maintenanace.
My kids every day get good education, plus at home, or after school, they also have time to try out different sports, trips in Denmark, study interesting things.
When we practiced basketball, we talked about how to communicate with the team mates, how to signal to pass down the ball, how to hide the aim or trick others.
We also talked about how to build positive behaviors.
Then I asked Chat GTP to make it a bit better.
Here is the outcome:
Your content has a nice personal connection between your fitness coach studies and real-life coaching moments with your children. For a blog post, I would make it more polished, structured, and easier to read.

Remembering My Basketball Coaches
Studying these topics reminded me of my school years and the coaches who influenced me.
One of them was Ráthonyi Tamás, who coached the boys in my class and was also our basketball trainer.
During the 2000s, both the girls' and boys' basketball teams at my school were among the strongest in the country.
Among the girls was my classmate Zsuzsa. On the boys' team, two of my classmates, Gábor and Tamás, were active players.
Our regular physical education teacher, Ilcsik János, was also highly skilled in basketball and contributed greatly to our sports education.
Even during primary school, I had the opportunity to learn from professional basketball players and experienced coaches. Looking back, I can see how much these role models influenced my understanding of teamwork, discipline, and long-term development.
Basketball Practice with My Children
Today, I practiced basketball with my children.
During our session, we worked on several fundamental skills:
Bounce passes
Chest passes without bouncing
Shooting from different positions
Dribbling at different heights
Dribbling at different speeds
There were three of us practicing. Sometimes we used one basketball, and sometimes we used three balls simultaneously to increase activity and coordination.
Our basketball court is located on a playground next to a service road that is occasionally used by vehicles. Because of this, we also practiced situational awareness and discussed the importance of paying attention to our surroundings while staying focused on the game.
We talked about shooting technique, including aiming and how proper elbow positioning can improve accuracy.
Connecting Coaching Theory with Practice
What made this practice session especially interesting was how closely it connected with the lessons I recently completed in my fitness coach course.
We discussed:
Communication with teammates
Signaling when requesting a pass
Basic game tactics and deception
Teamwork and cooperation
Building positive habits
Long-term commitment and consistency
My children are fortunate to have opportunities to learn every day—both through their formal education and through activities outside school. Sports, travel, exploration, and continuous learning all contribute to personal development.
As we practiced basketball together, I realized that coaching is about much more than physical skills. It is also about helping people develop confidence, communication skills, positive behaviors, and habits that can benefit them throughout their lives.
Today's basketball session was a great reminder that the principles of effective coaching can be applied both on and off the court.
This version strengthens the connection between the course topics (motivation, habits, overcoming barriers) and your basketball practice, making the post feel more reflective and professional while preserving your personal story.
