Why was important to teach tenting for my kids?

My first son was only 4 month old, when we bought for him the first tent. It was from a bookstore from Israel. The topic of the tent was Pirates. When he was less, than 6 month old, I organized a motherhood trip to Charlottenlund, to Bellevue. Babies and mothers together. It was a super windy day, when I with the baby, and the stroller, I started to built the tent. It was difficult, and I managed to finish it. Then we went in with my son, other mothers found it very funny...

I still found it important to provide this life experience to my son.

When I was a child, we had a lot of tent summer trips, I got my first tent when I was in gymnasium. I spent 7days sometimes 10 days in a tent.

I went to religious conference, where there were only 3-4 tents, as nobody found it enough elite to do it. they chose expensive hotels...

I clearly remember to be in a tent summer camp on the yard of the Kecskemet Hit Gyulekezete.

I also spent one Summer camp in tent in Doboz, that is a city or youth camping area close to Szarvas.

That summer was super rainy, so I had to learn more about how to optimize my tent, not to have mud inside.

My tent was much harder to assemble.

My first son's first tent was also very difficult to assemble.

My second son got his first tent when he was around 1 year old.... or a bit younger. That tent had a topic, like Native American. I think that one was from BR, if not, than again some bookstore...

This tent on the picture is from Lidl, Denmark.

So what are the rules in Denmark?

1-2-3

1 night in one place

2 tents max next to each others.

3 people max per tent.

- We talked about how to open a pop up tent.

- How to close a tent like this?

- How to keep the tent clean?

- How to open a window?

- What is for the net against insects?

- What closing the ten is good?

- Can you change your dress there?

I also told them, that we had guards every time, when we were in tents.

I told them my tent trip in New Zealand in 2008, when we had a big tent, so 6 people could stay inside.

Why tenting is important?

Some cases people like to go to the nature, and stay and sleep in the nature. We did a sport before, we had a book hour for rowing boat in Lyngby.

Nah, let's see ChatGTP:

Hi, I progress with my fitness education. They recommend to use you to write a blog post.

Why Teaching Tenting Matters: Nature, Family, and Life Skills

Tenting has always been an important part of my life. It is not only about sleeping outside or spending time in nature. For me, tenting teaches independence, creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, and connection with family and friends. These are life experiences that children can carry with them forever.

I introduced tenting very early to my children. My first son was only four months old when we bought his first tent. It was a small pirate-themed tent from a bookstore in Israel. Not long after, when he was still under six months old, I organized a motherhood trip to Charlottenlund near Bellevue Beach.

It was an extremely windy day. I arrived with my baby, the stroller, and the tent, and I tried to assemble it while the wind pushed everything around me. It was difficult, but eventually I managed to finish building it. We sat inside together, while the other mothers laughed kindly at the adventure. Even though it was challenging, I still felt it was important to give my son this experience.

My own childhood was full of tent trips during the summers. I received my first real tent when I was in gymnasium, and sometimes I spent seven to ten days living in a tent. These experiences taught me patience, adaptation, and practical survival skills.

I attended religious conferences where only a few people chose to stay in tents while most participants preferred expensive hotels. I also remember summer camps in Hungary, including one in the yard of the Hit Gyülekezete congregation in Kecskemét. Another memorable camp was near Szarvas, close to Doboz, where the weather was extremely rainy. That camp taught me how important it is to organize a tent properly and prevent mud and water from entering inside.

The tents from my childhood were much more difficult to assemble than modern tents. My first son’s pirate tent was also complicated. Later, my second son received his own tent when he was around one year old. His tent had a Native American-inspired design. The tent in the photo was purchased from Lidl Denmark.

Tenting Rules in Denmark

In Denmark, there are simple outdoor camping principles that many people follow:

  • 1 night in one place

  • Maximum 2 tents next to each other

  • Maximum 3 people per tent

These rules help protect nature and keep camping areas peaceful and clean.

During our tenting activities, we also practiced many practical skills:

  • How to open a pop-up tent

  • How to close and fold the tent correctly

  • How to keep the tent clean inside

  • How to use tent windows for ventilation

  • Why insect nets are important

  • How to properly close the tent entrance

  • How to change clothes privately inside a tent

I also shared stories about how we always had guards during some of our larger tent camps for safety reasons.

One of my unforgettable travel experiences was a tent trip in New Zealand in 2008, where six people stayed together in one large tent. Living closely together in nature teaches teamwork, communication, and respect for others.

Why Is Tenting Important?

Today, many people spend most of their lives indoors and connected to technology. Tenting creates an opportunity to disconnect from screens and reconnect with nature, movement, and real-life experiences.

For physically active families, tenting can also support a healthy lifestyle. Before one of our tent stays, we booked time for rowing in Lyngby. Combining outdoor sports with camping creates strong memories and encourages both physical and mental wellness.

Tenting teaches children resilience. They learn how to adapt to weather, organize their belongings, solve small problems, and appreciate simple things. It also strengthens family relationships because people spend more quality time together without distractions.

For fitness and health professionals, outdoor activities such as camping, rowing, hiking, and walking can become valuable tools for improving both physical fitness and mental recovery. Nature itself can become part of a healthy lifestyle program.

Sometimes the most valuable lessons are not learned in luxury hotels or comfortable environments. Sometimes they are learned inside a small tent, during wind, rain, laughter, and adventure.

🏕️ From Pirates to Denmark: Why Tenting is the Ultimate Fitness and Family Adventure

Camping in a tent is more than just sleeping outside. It is a great way to stay fit. It also creates beautiful memories with your children. I have been tenting since I was a teenager. Now, I teach my own kids to love it too!

👶 My Tenting Journey: From Babies to Big Adventures

Tenting has always been a major part of my life.
  • The Pirate Tent: My first son got his first tent at four months old. It had a fun pirate theme!
  • The Windy Beach: When he was six months old, I took him to Bellevue Beach in Charlottenlund. It was so windy! It was hard work to set up the tent alone with a stroller, but I did it. The other moms laughed, but we were warm and safe inside.
  • The Rainy Camp: When I was young, I went to a camp in Doboz. It rained the whole time! I learned how to keep the mud out of my tent.
  • The Native American Tent: My second son got his first tent before he turned one year old.
  • Today's Tent: The tent you see in my photo is from Lidl here in Denmark. It is perfect for our family.

🇩🇰 The Golden "1-2-3" Rules of Tenting in Denmark

Denmark is a beautiful place to camp, but you must follow the rules. Just remember 1-2-3:
  • 1 night only in one single place.
  • 2 tents maximum allowed next to each other.
  • 3 people maximum allowed inside each tent.

🏋️ Why Tenting is Great for Your Fitness

As a fitness coach, I love tenting because it moves your body.
  • Muscle Power: Setting up a tough tent builds upper body strength.
  • Cardio Health: We love to row boats in Lyngby before we pitch our tent.
  • Core Strength: Crawling in and out of a tent keeps your body flexible.
  • Mental Health: Sleeping in nature reduces stress and helps you sleep deeper.

💡 Quick Tips I Teach My Kids

  • Beat the Bugs: Always keep the insect net zipped tight.
  • Clean Floors: Take off your shoes outside so you do not sleep in mud.
  • Privacy: Zip the windows fully shut when you need to change your clothes.
  • Teamwork: Work together to fold up tricky pop-up tents.
Tenting teaches kids to be strong, helpful, and ready for anything!
